Top State Biologist Leaves To Take U.S. Post

June 11, 2010 - AUGUSTA -- Biologist Ken Elowe, the longtime director of the Maine Bureau of Resource Management, is leaving his post with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to work for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Massachusetts, IFW announced today.

Elowe, a 22-year IFW veteran, accepted the position as assistant regional director of Science Applications at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Region 5 headquarters in Hadley, Mass.

Elowe was responsible for implementing several fish and wildlife programs at IFW, including the Beginning with Habitat program. He led the strategy land acquisitions to protect wildlife and worked with private landowners to manage large tracts of land to help maintain wildlife habitat.

Currently, IFW and 11 companies have wildlife habitat management agreements regarding more than 500,000 acres of forested habitat. In his new role, Elowe also will be working on strategic habitat conservation among other tasks.
