Seth Wescott Brings Back the GOLD to Maine!

February 26, 2010 - CARRABASSETT VALLEY - That’s right! Seth Wescott, Snowboard Cross Olympic Gold Medalist at the Vancouver, British Columbia Winter Games is scheduled to be at Sugarloaf on Saturday, March 6.

“The date has been confirmed for Seth’s homecoming celebration,” said Ethan Austin, Sugarloaf’s Communications Manager.

Wescott, Governor Baldacci, John Diller, Sugarloaf General Manager and others will address the crowd on the ‘Beach’ of the Base Lodge from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wescott will then be available to sign autographs from 2 to 4 o’clock in the Base Lodge. A “Toast to Seth” will take place in the Widowmaker Lounge above the Base Lodge at 4 p.m.

This is Wescott’s second Gold Medal, the first coming in the 2006 Olympic Games and won the first Olympic Gold medal in the history of Snowboardcross. He came from a distant fourth place during the race, passing Mike Robertson and won by less than a snowboard length to win the Gold medal.

Wescott, 33 graduated from Carrabassett Valley Academy in 1994. He is truly Sugarloaf’s No. 1 Ambassador. He made a plea to the town of Carrabassett Valley last fall to help spearhead the building of a new gondola at Sugarloaf Mountain.

He has roots in Carrabassett Valley as part-owner of the Rack (a sport bar and restaurant at the beginning of the access road), and has built a new home near the base of the mountain.

Wescott was instrumental in designing a snowboardcross run near the SuperQuad at Sugarloaf last year.

This should be a great weekend and the crowds will surely be around. The J-2 Nationals are being held the same weekend and many members of Eastern Ski Writers Association (ESWA) are holding their annual conference.
