Maine Wind Conference Set for Oct. 6

September 29, 2009 - AUGUSTA -- Just back from a weeklong trade mission in Germany and Spain to promote Maine's potential as a wind-power producer, Gov. John Baldacci will open a daylong wind conference in Augusta.

The conference, scheduled for Oct. 6 at the Augusta Civic Center, is sponsored by the Wind Powering America Program, the Maine Public Utilities Commission, the U.S. Agriculture Department and others. Baldacci is to give opening remarks and offer his views on wind energy in Maine.

Among the topics at the conference will be funding and support opportunities, the federal goal of 20 percent wind generation by 2030 and its "Wind for Schools Program."

Members of trade delegations that have been in Europe will report on their experiences.
