Lake Association Gives Boat to Town of Wilton

September 08, 2009 - WILTON -- The town of Wilton has been presented with the gift of a used boat that police and firefighters can use to patrol Wilson Lake and respond to emergencies.

The Friends of Wilson Lake association bought a 1990, 19- foot, 120 Johnson horsepower Sea Nymph boat and trailer. At Tuesday's selectmen's meeting, President Wynn Muller said the club has been looking for a boat to donate to the town's public safety departments and found one available at a marina, Muller said.

Police Chief Dennis Brown said the boat will enable officers to check for compliance of life vest safety laws and investigate suspected alcohol violations. It would also be used during the annual Blueberry Festival, which has a boat parade and fireworks over the lake every August. Brown said any arrests would have to be made by a game warden.

He plans to coordinate with the Warden Service to provide training for officers and firefighters. The boat will be stored at the East Wilton fire station in the winter and at the lake in the summer. The association has set aside money for maintenance and is having some repairs made at Howie's Welding in Jay.
