Wind Power Opponents Lose Appeal

August 11, 2009 - AUGUSTA -- The Maine Board of Environmental Protection has rejected arguments that environmental regulators moved too quickly to approve a 40-turbine wind farm in the Lincoln Lakes region.

The Friends of Lincoln Lakes contended regulators and developer First Wind failed to fully consider the impact of noise, vibrations and light flicker on people and wildlife.

On Thursday, the board turned down requests for public hearings. Some board members, however, acknowledged ongoing concerns about noise that might need to be addressed in state regulations.
