Operator of Boat Faces OUI Charges After Crash

May 27, 2009 - SHAPLEIGH -- A Massachusetts man faces a charge of drunken boating following a weekend crash in Shapleigh that sent a passenger to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Maine Warden Service said 23-year-old Raymond Fraser III of Danvers, Mass., was arrested early Sunday morning on Square Pond. Officials said Fraser drove a 23-foot boat that was propelled out of the pond and came to rest 8 feet off the ground in trees on an island.

Fraser is to appear in court this summer on a charge of operation of a watercraft while under the influence.

Nineteen-year-old Lindsay Fallon of Westford, Mass., remained at Maine Medical Center in Portland, where her condition had stabilized Monday.

Two other passengers, 26-year-old Patrick McDonough of North Reading, Mass., and his 18-year-old sister Courtney McDonough suffered minor injuries.
