Fair Committee Seeks Princess Hopefuls

May 06, 2009 - CLINTON -- The Clinton Lions Club Agricultural Fair and the Maine Dairy Princess Scholarship Pageant Committee are looking for girls who are interested in becoming the next Maine Dairy Princess and Maine Junior Dairy Princess.

Each entrant is required to be sponsored in part by a Maine dairy farm. The winner will spend the next year representing the Maine dairy industry in all different types of activities, including Eastern States Exposition during Maine Day, the Maine Agricultural Fair Association's annual banquet, the Agricultural Trade Show and Maine Agricultural Day in the Legislature.

The preliminaries for this year's competition begin Aug. 22 at the Barker Farm, in Leeds, in conjunction with Maine Farm Days.

The princesses are crowned on Sept. 10 at the Clinton Lions Club Fair after meeting with the judges and performing publicly at the fair.

Girls interested in becoming the Maine Dairy Princess must be 14 before Jan. 1 and no older than 17 by Dec. 31 of the competing year.

The Clinton Lions Club awards the winner with a $1,000 scholarship prize. The runner-up is awarded a $500 scholarship.

Each of these girls participates in activities during the remainder of the fair weekend.

The Maine Junior Dairy Princess competition was introduced last year. Contestants for junior princess should be 10 years old before June 1 and no older than 13 by Dec. 31.

The winner in this category will receive a cash prize of $150. She also participates in the remainder of the fair weekend and is invited to attend some activities with the Maine Dairy Princess.

Questions can be answered and entry packets can be requested by calling Belinda Stoughton, 426-8586; Terry Gerow, 426-8445; Nancy Wright, 426-8845 or Vicki Winsor, at 426-8041.
