Last Turnpike Basket Converting to E-ZPass

February 24, 2009 - GRAY -- The last remaining coin basket lane on the Maine Turnpike will be removed from the Gray Toll Plaza tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 25, after the morning commute.

The coin lane will be converted to a dedicated E-ZPass lane. Cash paying customers will be able to pay their tolls at the lane designated for “Any Vehicle.”

“Less than 10 percent of the traffic utilizes the coin lane for cash transactions,” said Turnpike spokesman Bruce Pelletier. “The vast majority of traffic uses E-ZPass during the morning and evening commute,” he said.

The changeover will bring the total number of dedicated E-ZPass lanes on the Maine Turnpike to 32.
