Picnic to Celebrate Messalonskee Lake
August 26, 2008 -
OAKLAND -- Messalonskee Lake Association is turning its annual meeting into a picnic in the park.
The association has arranged for a soft-rock band and will be handing out free soft drinks and water. The event begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Oakland boat launch off Old Belgrade Road.
Association member Edward Pearl said the association formed in 1990 and has more than 100 members, most from Oakland, Belgrade and Sidney.
Milfoil and water quality are the central concerns for the association, Pearl said.
The formal meeting portion of the event will run from 4 to 5 p.m. A representative from the Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance is scheduled to speak.
Pearl said the band Hidden Drive will perform from 5 to 8 p.m.
Parking is limited at the boat launch, but Pearl said people can use the Oakland municipal garage parking lot, which is just south of the park.
The association also encourages people to access the event by water craft. Pearl said the only stipulation is that boaters make sure they keep a channel open for other boaters to get in and out of the boat launch area.
