Sebago Lake State Park Boat Launch Open for the Season

May 07, 2008 - SEBAGO -- In a sure sign that spring is here to stay, the boat launch at Sebago Lake State Park opened for the season last week.

“Sebago Lake is extremely popular with anglers and the opening of our boat launch is important to many of them,” said park manager Tom Skolfield. “It has been a long winter, but since April 21, the launch site has been open for the season.”

Gates at the boat launch will open at 4 a.m. for the next few days. Beginning May 4, the park’s entrance booth will be staffed and the gates will then open at 9 a.m.

Anglers can purchase an early morning fishing pass, that – when accompanied with a season pass – will accommodate those who want boat access prior to 9 a.m. That pass, and the combination to the gate that accompanies it, are available at Sebago Lake State Park.

Sebago’s campground is normally open by this time each year as well, but conditions do not permit it to open yet. It is expected that the campground will be open by the first weekend in May.

Sebago Lake State Park opened to the public in 1938 as one of the five original state parks. This forested lakeside park is situated on the shore of Maine's deepest and second-largest lake which provides year-round recreation for thousands of visitors each year. Near the foothills of the While Mountains, the park's 1,400 acres features sandy beaches, extensive woodlands, ponds, bogs a river and diverse habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal life. The park's 250-site campground is a popular destination for family vacationers and provides lasting memories season after season.
