Local volunteers inspect boats, trailers

May 02, 2007 - For the past five summers in a row, a dedicated group of volunteers has been protecting our lakes, ponds and rivers, one boat at a time, one cove at a time, and one stretch of shoreline at a time.

Trained in free workshops conducted by Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, these volunteers spend a few hours a month inspecting boats, trailers and fishing gear for any signs of plant life. Similarly, they spend a few hours a month patrolling the shorelines from from canoes, kayaks and small powerboats. Either way, they are out enjoying the sunshine, fresh air and some of the most beautiful lakes and rivers in the country.
