Bass clubs to clean up shores of Lake Auburn

April 28, 2007 - The Androscoggin Bass Masters and LA Junior Bass Masters will be holding their annual Lake Auburn shore cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon today.

Members and volunteers will meet at the turnout on Route 4, next to the boat launch, and from there will spread out around the lake in small groups. Trashbags will be supplied as will a dump truck from the Auburn Water District. Please dress appropriately.

Each year since the late 1980s the Bass club has collected several dump truck loads of trash and debris from the banks and roadsides around the perimeter of the lake.

Spokesman John Volkernick said, "our Bass club looks forward to this conservation project each spring and we realize the impact the trash would have on the watershed if it were to successfully reach the lake."

"It's a quality fishery and water supply and we would like it to stay that way for many years to come."

In past years, members have also communicated with boaters launching in Lake Auburn and discussed with them the effects of weed infestation and what the devastating affects those invasive plants could someday have on the watershed. We are also proud to say that several of the Bass club members have been trained and certified courtesy boat inspectors.

Anyone or any club wishing to join the cleanup will want more information on either club a contact Mark Swett at 783-5933 or Volkernick at 562 -- 9255 for more information.
