Watershed program to offer a birds eye view

April 26, 2007 - Union Historical Society looks at the Medomak watershed from the air in "Wings over the Watershed", to be presented by Liz Petruska, executive director of Medomak Valley Land Trust, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in the old town house on Town House road, just off the Union common.

"Wings over the Watershed" features aerial photos of the Medomak River watershed that were taken during during flights over the past several years. Viewers will embark on a journey that starts at the Medomak River's headwaters in Washington, Liberty and Searsmont, and then meanders along the beautiful sedge meadows of Pettengill Stream and further south to Medomak Pond and Cleary Hill, eventually reaching Waldoboro Village in the eastern and western shores of the river and estuary which merges with them at Muscongus Bay.

The program uses a powerful perspective to tell the story of the Medomak River watershed and its significant natural resources and to explore how historical land uses have shaped the landscapes that are present in the upper portions of the Medomak River watershed.

In addition presenters will provide information on the Medomak Valley Land Trust and its work throughout the watershed. Participants will learn about the natural habitats of the watershed and have the chance to offer insight into how and why we conserve these special places.

Following a business meeting and program, refreshments will be served in the parlor by hostesses Millie Goff and Norma Jones.

Union Historical Society's regular program meetings, which are free and open to the public, are held at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month from March to December. More information about Union Historical Society and its programs and publications, call 785- 5444 and leave a message.
