Libby Camps named fly fishing Lodge of the Year

April 25, 2007 - Libby Camps on Millinocket Lake in northern Piscataquis County was recently named the 2006 Orvis-endorsed Fly Fishing Lodge of the Year. Owner is Matt and Alan Libby accepted the award at an Orvis Company Rendezvous on April 4, becoming the first northeastern lodge to ever earn the recognition.

The Orvis Company's Lodge of the Year award is known as the most prestigious in the flyfishing lodging, outfitting and guidin industry, and honorst the single most outstanding Orvis endorsed property in North America. Libby camps is the oldest Orvis endorsed flyfishing lodging in Maine and the only Orvis endorsed wingshooting lodge in the state.

The business was founded in 1890 by Matt Libby's great-grandfather, grandfather and great uncle. Today, Libby Camps specializes in wilderness fishing and hunting vacations for individuals and families. A remote location above the northeast corner of Baxter State Park and within the watersheds of the Aroostook, Allagash and Penobscot Rivers gives guests access to some of Maine's best native fishing grounds.

"The lakes, ponds and streams that our guests visit probably have the highest percentage of wild native fish you're going to find in the state," said Matt Libby.

Two float planes take fishing customers to the waterway or outpost cabin of their choice. This unique service is not offered by another outfitter in the state.

"People come back to us year after year because they know they can experience the true wilderness vacation with us," said Libby. "Our customers love spending the day on a lake or river and not seeing anyone else except a moose."
