Pond area cleanup is Saturday

April 20, 2007 - More pleasant waters and a cleaner shoreline, particularly along Thorofare Road, is the aim of a cleanup set for Saturday morning between 9 a.m. and noon.

The Four Towns Watershed Association, working in conjunction with a weekend roadside cleanup in Litchfield, will scour the shores near the public boat landing on Thorofare Road. The road separates Pleasant Pond from Upper Pleasant Pond. "Four Towns Watershed Association want to do something in and around upper Pleasant and Pleasant ponds," said Pat Sirois, who serves on the association's board.

"This is a pilot project for us," Sirois said. "If this is a success, then next year we will expand this through all of Pleasant Pond and Cobbossee stream. This year were going to concentrate our efforts on the Thorofare area."

Sirois said he has seen trash on Thorofare Road recently.

"It seems to gather at the road crossings because the wind blows the things to the crossings," he said.

Sirois said he will bring a trailer to haul away the trash collected and he will have trash bags for those who would like to assist.
